Strap yourself into a customised cardboard box, close your eyes, open your ears and hold on!

Harnessing the evocative power of hand-made props, shadow play, lo-fi special effects and a spellbinding live musical score performed by A Wandering Mind, Sunset over Cardboard Mountains will take you on an immersive joyride to a world where childhood fears meet flights of fancy, and risk lurks at every turn. For six nights only, twelve lucky passengers will be taken on a fluid and disorienting journey: whisked across fantastical plains, plunged into outlandish soundscapes, and pushed to the very edge of your imagination. Taking place under the cover of a giant patchwork quilt, this experiential art adventure is sure to make you feel wide-eyed and small again.

And yes, you really do get to sit in a cardboard box.

Sunset Over Cardboard Mountains marks the first collaboration between composer Ed Gould and visual artists Lisa Stewart and Rachel Feery, with dramaturgy by Margaret Cameron. This project has been developed with the support of Aphids.

About the artist/s:

Ed Gould has completed a a Bachelor of Music Performance (Honours) at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University in 2009 and a Bachelor of Music Performance, Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University in 2007. Gould has performed as a solo saxophonist in the performance of ‘Nexus’, composed by Don Banks, with the Monash University Symphony Orchestra at Robert Blackwood Hall, Clayton, Melbourne in 2005. Gould has been involved with a variety of visual arts and performance projects such as compiling the soundscape for performance artist, Bron Batten as part of the 2008 Next Wave Festival, Festival Club Closing Party, Melbourne and has performed with a Wandering Mind at the Degraves Subway in association with the City of Melbourne and Platform Artist Group Inc in 2009. Gould has performed in a variety of Melbourne venues from diverse as the old Dizzy’s Jazz Club, Richmond and The Barley Corn, Collingwood, Bar 303, Northcote, The Tote, Collingwood and Ding Dong Loung, Melbourne.

Rachel Feery completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours at Monash University in 2008. Recent exhibitions include: Hide and Seek, China Club Arts Hub, This is Not Art Festival, Newcastle, 2009; Big!, Queens Theatre, Adelaide, 2009; Wanderlust at C3 Contemporary Art Space, Melbourne, 2009; Make Believe, C3 Contemporary Art Space, Melbourne 2008 and Extended mind: Extended Body, Off The Kerb, Melbourne 2007.

Lisa Stewart completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts in Photomedia at Monash University in 2007 and a Bachelor of Arts in Film & Television at Monash University in 2009. Recent exhibitions include: Hide and Seek, China Club Arts Hub, This is Not Art Festival, Newcastle, 2009; Post: A Group Show, Place Gallery, Richmond, Melbourne, 2009; Big! Queens Theatre, Adelaide, 2009; The Ecologies Project, Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne 2008; Swift: Video art screenings, St Kilda Film Festival, Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, Melbourne 2008; Once Upon a Time: Off the Kerb’s 1st Birthday Show, Off the Kerb Gallery, Melbourne, 2008.
