About the artist/s:

Paula van Beek is a theatre maker and live artist dedicated to creating new contemporary performance works and exploring new forms and frames for presenting arts projects. Paula has a Bachelor of Arts from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand (1998) and a Graduate Diploma in Animatuering from VCA in Melbourne (2006). In 2009 she was part of the Solo Artists in Residence program at Victoria University, Melbourne. Her extensive experience working in the arts sector as a devisor, performer, director, lighting designer and photographer enables Paula to approach creating original work from multiple angles.

Recent projects include lighting Gabrielle New’s The Void in the corridor of the 7th floor of the Nicholson Building (Nov, 2009), hanging out in the carpark of Lucy Guerin Studios for Human Flame Forest with Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal (With the Lot, April 2009). Paula recently completed the research and development of Re:place – an audience activated installation – during a Punctum Live Arts residency at the ICU in Castlemaine (July 2009). Paula is in long term development of the performance project ‘the lonely instrument’ undertaking a Hothouse research residency (May 2008) and Fringe Festival development showing (Sept 2008). In April 2010 Paula will be undertaking a research residency at Robert Wilson’s Watermill Center on Long Island, New York with visual artist Georgie Roxby Smith on the Second Life / Real Life project Reality Bytes.
